Goooooooood Morning!!
So, who doesn't like vodka for breakfast?
Ok, that might be taking things a little too far, but how many times have you tried to perk yourself up for that great night out that you and the girls have been planning for weeks, and when the day finally arrives, you didn't sleep a wink the night before, and you've been run off your feet all day! Argh, typical!
Fear not, here's a trendier, and far more acceptable version to asking for a cuppa!
Coffee Infused Vodka
500ml Vodka (As always, avoid the cheap rubbish but don't break the bank, decent coffee is a far better investment here!)
3 Tbsp Ground Coffee Beans (If you drink freshly ground coffee you will already know which you like, I used Lavazza)
That's It!!
You're also going to need:
An Air Tight Bottle/ Jar
A Fine Mesh Sieve / Coffee Filter Papers
5 Days Infusing Time
Method of Madness
Another simple infusion, all you need to do is add the grinds to the vodka, and store for a week in an airtight bottle. If the bottle neck is wet, this is definitely going to be easier pouring the grinds in to a bottle using a funnel.
Depending on the strength of the coffee used, you may not need the full five days.
Having said that, it's worth bearing in mind that a mild coffee wont infuse if left for a longer period of time, in fact, you run the risk of getting a stale, mould-like taste to the vodka, so avoid this, use a good strong espresso coffee and begin tasting from 3days in.
Give it a daily swirl-shake, and watch the vodka turn a gorgeous, chocolate-brown colour.
Party Morning - You will need to strain this a couple of times, and most likely find that coffee filter papers are best here as the grinds can be very fine.
Remove all of the coffee from the infused vodka, and bottle it up for later....if you can resist the aroma! I couldn't, I had to make a cheeky mini cocktail there and then!
Tips
- Make sure you have good quality, strong, espresso beans!
- Taste daily after the third infusion day
- Grinding the beans coarsely will make straining easier at the end
Drink Suggestion
Get in touch or leave comments with your ideas for this infusion, I was lucky enough to get my hands on Isla Ñ 's new product, a creamy take on their Gold rum; Dulce De Leche, and this helped to make one lovely, sweet Expresso Martini!
To perk yourself up with this concoction, you'll need:
- 40ml Coffee Infused Vodka
- 20ml Isla Ñ Dulce De Leche
- 10ml Simple Syrup
- 20-40ml Whole Milk
- Few Coffee Beans to garnish
Pour out into a glass and decorate with a few floating coffee beans.
Suit Yourself - Make it your own way!
- I tend to prefer longer drinks and that's why I gave the variable measure of milk, you might prefer less milk, or even no milk at all - This will probably follow your normal coffee drinking habits!
- I have a bit of an obsession for collecting coffee syrups and so I also created versions where the simple syrup was switched out for Gingerbread Coffee Syrup, and Chocolate Cookie Syrup, both of which really answered my sweet cravings!
- Before the whole bottle disappears, I also plan to do an ice cream version, and I think this will involve Chocolate Ice Cream in place of the milk, whizzed up in a blender with ice, perfect for when the sun decides to show it's face again!
Hopefully that's woken everyone up, let me know how you get on, and your drink suggestions!
See you again shortly!
